Dr. Labib has been a practicing cardiologist for more than 30 years at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, where he currently serves as the Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory, a position held since 2010. He has an academic appointment at Tufts Medical School as Associate Professor of Medicine.
The emerging percutaneous valvular interventions are heavily dependent on advanced imaging, such as 3D-Transesophageal echocardiography. Currently Dr. Labib is the primary echocardiographer for advanced echo imaging support during complex cardiac interventions at Lahey.
Dr. Labib has been dedicated to teaching medical students, residents and fellows throughout his career. He has served as Clerkship Director for Tufts medical students for 10 years, and served as Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program Director at Lahey for more than 15 years (until 2010).
He has also been a course Director of the Annual Cardiovascular Symposium in Brewster, MA. For more than 20 years. This 4-day symposium is designed to disseminate knowledge and update attendees on the latest advances in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine, and how to incorporate such advances into their clinical practice for the benefit of patients.
Dr. Labib has served as local site Principal Investigator in over a dozen multicenter trials at Lahey and has conducted original research projects with fellows and residents, which led to many abstract presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and peer-reviewed publications, which have received well over than 1,800 citations (Google Scholar). He has an interest in hemodynamics and valvular heart disease, and has been invited to give presentations on this topic for Cardiology Grand rounds, Medical Grand Rounds, and other Continuing Medical Education (CME) forums. He is the recipient of the “Words of Gold Award” during the 47th Anniversary of Lahey’s Topics in Internal Medicine Course in 2018 “In Recognition of Dedication and Commitment to Medical Education”.
