Russell has dedicated his career to the treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease, and is himself an institution within the Division of Cardiology at Columbia. He has been a practicing physician assistant for over 25 years in the field of cardiovascular medicine and has worked with patients with structural heart disease since 2005, when the very first patients with aortic stenosis were treated with TAVR. Russell has been an integral member of the valve team since then, serving as Director of Outpatient Clinical Services for the Valve Center since 2012 and Chief Physician Assistant since 2018. In addition to his clinical work, Russell has authored book chapters on cardiac imaging within the structural heart space and is highly sought after as invited faculty to many cardiology, interventional and structural conferences.
In Late 2024, Russell was appointed the Executive Director of the Columbia Center for Interventional Cardiovascular Care and the Columbia Structural Heart & Valve Center
Russell received his Master of Science Degree in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from Columbia University, which certainly bodes well for our dynamic environment. Outside of his work in the hospital, Russell lives in New Jersey and enjoys spending time with his wife, Anne, and following the New York Rangers even more avidly now that his 2 adult children, Zachary 23, and Aiden 19 are out of the house.
